Circuit Bending Installation
Workflow
This interactive video installation explores surveillance, control, and the instability of the gaze through a circuit-bent television screen. Two cameras are positioned on opposite sides of the viewer: one faces them directly, recording their image, while the other looks from behind, observing the viewer’s body and surroundings.
Through a circuit-bending system, the viewer can switch between the perspectives of the two cameras. The transition is intentionally disrupted, producing glitches, distortions, and visual interference on the screen. The malfunction becomes part of the work’s language, transforming the act of switching perspectives into a visible disruption of the surveillance system.
By placing the viewer simultaneously in the position of the observed and the observer, the installation questions who controls the gaze and whether it is possible to occupy either position exclusively. The circuit-bent television, an object associated with mass communication and domestic viewing, becomes a technological interface through which surveillance is made unstable and participatory.
